MOFFAT COUNTY FIRE PLAN
| "FIRE USE" ON PRIVATE LANDS In May of 2005, the Moffat County Commission notified all landowners who participated in the Moffat County Fire Plan that the County would no longer be calling them on an annual basis to review and update their personal fire plans. Rather, landowners would be responsible for contacting Moffat County with any changes to their fire plans. Many landowners requested ‘fire use’ across their property to allow fires to burn without suppression measures being taken. However it is important to remember the consistent message that Moffat County has sent to landowners since the origination of the County Fire Plan: Fire Use is subject to resource parameters such as weather conditions, safety, economics, and fire fighting resources available. Therefore just because a landowner’s fire plan requests ‘fire-use’ the Sheriff will evaluate parameters on a fire by fire basis and often times, full suppression will occur because it is the prudent action. |
