PRESS RELEASE: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOFFAT COUNTY LAND USE SURVEY Moffat County officials are continuing to send out two extensive, countywide surveys. One will help with revision of the Moffat County Comprehensive Master Plan. The second will help with informing Colorado’s congressional delegation about citizen’s preferences for the management of federal lands in Moffat County. The project is a joint effort conducted by the University of Wyoming’s Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics with help from Colorado State University Cooperative Extension Service at the request of Moffat County. Many citizens representing all areas of the County spent over 200 person-hours in focus group activities and meetings earlier this season. They helped develop the issues and recommendations that form the basis for the questions in the surveys. The results are two in-depth surveys about citizen preferences for County and Federal land use and land use planning. The surveys were designed to provide input into the County’s Master Plan, to record federal lands management preferences, and to provide information for the University of Wyoming’s Agricultural Lands Project. The two surveys are being sent to a scientifically selected random sample of households representing residents and landowners in Moffat County. Each person who completes the surveys will represent not only their own views, but also the views of fellow citizens in the County. The Moffat County Commissioners encourage those in households that receive the surveys to complete them and return as soon as possible. The surveys are on their way to landowners and Moffat County households. The surveys will be sent out in late March to approximately 1900 households across the County. This is a unique opportunity for those participating in the survey to provide input into the County’s land use planning/policy process. Information from the survey will be included in an update of the Master Plan’s goals and policies for Moffat County’s growth and development. As the County updates its County Master Plan this is one of several methods being used to reflect residents’ and landowners’ preferences concerning growth and development in Moffat County today and for the future. Participation in the survey gives you a chance to have a voice in what your County’s natural resources, rural lands and housing developments will look like in the years to come. |
